Responsibility IS Freedom

This is a harsh reality for some, but for me I find comfort in being Responsible.

As a person who grew up under severely dysfunctional and abusive circumstances, having the ability to be responsible for my life is a gift. It means I am no longer a victim of my life. I am the commander, with God as my compass, and I have the power to choose.

Quote by Hal Elrod, found on Pinterest

I can choose to change a situation by speaking up, or by removing myself.

I can choose to react or respond, or to walk away with no explanation.

I can choose where I focus my energy and what I deem important in my life.

Yes, choices are hard. Life is difficult. Bad things happen.

Still, I can choose to walk my path with God as my guide.

I can choose to ask others for help and support.

I can choose to share my life, and who I let stay in my life.

There is so much POWER to be had in being RESPONSIBLE.

Balance, Boundaries, and Peace of Mind

A BIG part of my Power Word for 2021: Balance, is learning to walk away from energy draining experiences.

Gotta be HONEST… this is HARD WORK for me! I’m an emotional person. I feel everything deeply. Discussions about Issues and values I hold dear to my heart are hard to walk away from.

I’m increasingly finding that people (especially on social media) want to drag me into arguments rather than honest discussion of differing opinions, ideologies, and values. These so-called “accepting people” would rather finger-point and yell and scream. This is a useless undertaking. These people aren’t interested in a discussion about the complexity of an issue. They simply want to “Take a Stand” and tell me how I am wrong or even a bad person if I disagree with their cause, ideology, or opinion.

This is a complete waste of time and energy. Yet the drama is VERY addicting.

I must work hard to resist the pull of these futile endeavors.

My mantra: “I am living my life in balance and with healthy boundaries.”

And… BREATHE!

Nothing in today’s world is going to be better if i sacrifice my peace of mind.

Life is hard enough without inviting someone else’s “Crazy” into my consciousness.

Making Time for Myself

It’s been a year since I’ve been able to take art classes at Briah Lucky Studio inNew Haven, CT.

I’ve really missed it and struggled to make time for art at home in the midst of working from home. SO… this was my therapist’s solution:

Make Art Every Day by Katie Vernon

I have recently found that I need strong structure to make time for myself and things that are important to me. Otherwise, WORK and Exhaustion take over my life 😖.

Following My Own Path

@pinterest is great for inspiration! Love this.

I can never be reminded too often to keep being my own person in-spite of all the noise around me.

Sticking to my own path, making up my own mind, standing strong on my values and beliefs is key to being the woman, wife, mother, friend, and contributor in the world that is meaningful to me.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Thankful Thanksgiving 2020… Is it an Oxymoron?

I know this year has been a challenge and a trial for all of us. COVID-19, Politics, Protests, communities (friends and family) being torn apart by differences in opinion and beliefs… 2020 has been a rough road all the way.

Wherever you are, in the USA or abroad, I pray for you. I send healing and love to sooth our tired souls and weary hearts. I send thoughts of healing and peace, gratitude and love. May these “vibes,” “thought,” and “prayers” find you in your struggle and give you strength to keep up the good fight: loving yourself and others, supporting your community in healing, sharing the grief of loss and hope for better times ahead.

That said, I turn my thoughts to Thankfulness, for it is in gratitude that I find my strengths keep going ❤️.

Things I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving 2020:

My family ❤️
  1. A warm home
  2. My little family of 3
  3. All the Thanksgiving Greetings received from friends and family
  4. Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner with my daughter & enjoying being part of some of her “Firsts”
First Pie (pumpkin) made by herself. First Apple Crisp (made w/no help from me). First time making her Great-Grandmother’s Mac & Cheese. First time prepping and seasoning a Turkey.
  5. Quiet homemade Thanksgiving dinner at home, just us ❤️
  6. Our health
  7. A fun day staying home and enjoying each other’s company
  8. Zoom call with my family: brothers, sisters, mom, nieces & nephews… all living far away from us, and still joining together to share the holiday.
  9. Watching Christmas Chronicles: Part 2 (we loved #1)
  10. Feeling creative again and relaxed enough on doodle.
  11. Feeling some peace for the first time since March.
My doodles

Wow! The world may be CRAZY in 2020, but there are still pockets of JOY to be found!

Blessings to all ❤️
