Long Live The Books | The Disappearing Bookstores

I spent my childhood, ok tweens & teens huddled in the corner of San Rafael Book & News…. Ah the memories. I can still smell the paperbacks 📚 📖.

My most depressing moment recently: my daughter’s High School Library… computers & ports with a smattering SMATTERING of books 😢.

Kids today don’t even know what the Dewey Decimal System is, let alone how to use it.

Reflections on Rest and Reflection

I’m currently on Day 3 of a migraine headache making me want to rip my head off.

How am I typing right now? Because I’m in the low throb between mind-numbing pain.

Everyone has great suggestions for headaches: lavender tea, acupuncture, neck exercises, icing neck/head, migraine meds, Excedrin, sinus treatment, caffeine… the list goes on.

I’ve tried 90% of these and I still suffer.

My answer: sleep it off. It sounds lazy, but honestly no one solution has worked consistently except REST.

Which brings me to another question… when your body malfunctions, how often do YOU find rest is the answer?

I’m not talking about real disease or illness where medical intervention is necessary.

I’m talking about headaches, pain, colds, flu, body aches and pain… your body’s way of SCREAMING at you to take a break and instead medicate to keep going. Until which point your body makes you STOP.

Why is it so hard to accept that we all, each and every human, need rest and reflection?

It seem that today rest and reflection have become “dirty” words. Action and pursuit are the only answers for success.

This year has been one of great change and goal achievement for me. It has also been a year of Listening: to my inner voice and my body.

As 2019 comes to a close and we are on the brink of a new decade, I challenge readers to reflect and evaluate where you are in personal goal achievement and personal health.

Make 2020 about BALANCE, self-care, listening to your inner voice MORE than the world’s noise on who you need to be.

Love to all.

Nothing ever stays the same.

“Reflection, Realization. Resolve and Sustained Effort.” – Aaron Spelling

I love the way this article on personal growth uses a gardening analogy.

The KEY here is REFLECTION. The first, and to my observation most difficult part for people to do is Reflect. This means siting in an uncomfortable place, a situation, and reflect on WHY you are in this spot and HOW/WHAT you got there BEFORE change can happen.

Read this article.

Then find a quiet place to reflect on where you are and why. Then on where you want to be and how to get there.

Then make your plan, with steps and stages to get you where you want to be.

Then put it into action: sustained effort.

Beautiful Day

Westport Walk forALS. My daughter and I participated with a friend and her family in support of her father who was recently diagnosed.

A beautiful experience meeting new people, supporting a good cause, and getting fresh air!

WOW! Mind 🤯. Is fear of Success what stalls me on the path to my dream?

This article gives a lot of food for thought.

I know one of my huge stumbling blocks (I continue to work on) is negative self talk. Could this be related?

Hmmm….

Check it out and leave your thoughts and impressions!

“You too can discover the power of integrity when you commit to personal accountability and making great choices.”

Great short read. Let’s bring integrity (and accountability) back into our daily lives. Remember: we are raising (children) our future and modeling the behaviors and decision-making skills we want to see going forward.

It’s not about “I want x, so my behavior is ok right now.” Ripple affects peeps! For every action there is an equivalent reaction… this means Actions have consequences: Take responsibility for yours and soon others will too.

48 Things to Remember About Living Your Dream

What a GREAT LIST!!!

My personal faves:

1. You can be sure it’s a dream and not a fantasy if your dream involves serving others in some way.

3. Living your dream will allow you to be the best you can be and use your natural gifts, passions and talents to the fullest.

9. You already possess all the talents and passions needed to bring your dream to light.

19. People will try to discourage you from living your dream. Live your dream anyway.

20. Encourage every kid you meet to discover and live their dream.

40. Your dream wants you to be a little bit crazy on occasion. In other words, dreams really don’t thrive from playing it safe. Get it?
